Ondanks dat ik geboren ben in Nederland van in Nederland geboren ouders heb ik Franse en Spaanse voorouders. Mijn Franse voorouders hebben moeten vluchten uit Frankrijk, omdat zij als Hugenoten niet welkom waren. De Spaanse lijn komt waarschijnlijk voort uit de periode van de Tachtigjarige oorlog, waarbij de Spaanse soldaten hier ook hun leven opbouwde.
Hoogstwaarschijnlijk is het bij de meeste mensen over de hele wereld hetzelfde geval. We hebben allemaal geschiedenis, voorouders, bloedverwanten en zijn hebben daardoor uiteindelijk allemaal een ding gemeen: we zijn allemaal mens.
In mijn kunst ben ik op zoek naar mijn Spaanse roots. Tijdens deze zoektocht voel ik me meer compleet worden en voel ik me thuis in mijn kunst. Ik begon mijn zoektocht met het thema gelijkheid, om cultuur met elkaar te verbinden. Ik combineerde kleuren uit verschillende culturen met symbolen en vormen uit verschillende culturen en bracht ze samen in een schilderij.
Nu ben ik op het punt beland dat ik het nog persoonlijker ga maken. Ik leer mezelf kennen via de kunst die ik maak door op zoek te gaan naar mijn Spaanse roots.
